Essential Question: What is most important for an EMT to be successful?

Teacher Guide

Time

Introduction

Introduce myself and ask the class what they already know about EMT’s. Then go into the history of how the whole EMS system started.
Hi Everyone, my name is Brittny and as you may already know im doing my senior project on EMT (Emergency Medical Technician). What do you guys know about EMT”S? Then go into the history of how EMT became a job
1-2 min

Three Important Sources

1. Third Intervew with Richard Sanchez at SDCH
2. Service Learning at SDCH and @ Mission Ambulance
3.Article 8 which talks about the history of the EMS system

Verification

(Steps to check for student understanding)
I will do this mainly at the end of the activity when they will be asses me, as a patient
Beginning of Presentation: Do you guys know what an EMT actually is? Did you know that there is a difference between EMT’s and paramedics?
End: Check for understanding, the class will learn from the different stations that will be set up and asses me, as a patient who has been injured.

 1-3 min

Body

(Give and/or demonstrate necessary information)

Break down what you plan on talking about into manageable sections.

Literal: history, salary, different ambulance companies, how to use a BP cuff, stethoscope, S.A.M.P.L.E
Interpretive: How they work now, what its like in this day and age
Applied: How I want to be an EMT and work my way up

    Literal: 3 min
    Interp:1 min
    Applied: 1 min
Visuals Possible posters demonstrating my EQ as well as what successful and important mean to me….my definitions of those words…..as well as stethoscopes and blood pressure cuffs.

Activity

(Describe the independent activity to reinforce this lesson)

What is the activity/ how will this be done: This activity will have 6 tables two tables that are stethoscopes, two tables that are BP cuffs and two tables that will learn how to use S.A.M.P.L.E to asses patients. And the students do this for about 5 minutes and then im going  to direct them to the front of the classroom , because im going to give them a scenario and im injured and they will have to asses me by what they have just learned

5-10
min

Materials (for activity)

6 stethoscopes
6BP cuffs

Conclusion

I believe what I will do to conclude this presentation will be simply stating the fact that the class did or did not asses me correctly and tell them what they should do if they didn’t do it right and then say and that’s how you   asses a patient and hopefully you all learned something you didn’t already know (: thank you for your time

  1. The word that you are looking for is assess. Your spelling is the slang plural of butt. Article 8 must be named. This seems like a lot to teach and assess in a max of 20 minutes...do you have 6 stations worth of equipment? I'd watch as people assessed table mates to save time. What is SAMPLE? It should say in lesson plan.
